On 27 October, MSWC’s president, Guy Pfeffermann, visited two LAMP trainings in Laikipia, Kenya. One is the Rangelands LAMP for the Moran, the young warriors whose decisions shape much of what happens on the rangelands. The other is the Elephant Mamas LAMP, for women who live in a major elephant corridor.

A Rangelands LAMP session in progress.

The Rangelands LAMP brings together 100 Moran from five community conservancies in Laikipia. They work on leadership and decision-making, management and planning, and regenerative grazing. The course is delivered by Forward Consulting and True Range at Natural State’s Centre for the Nature Economy, with support from MSWC and the Lunain Foundation. We wrote about its first module in September.

The Elephant Mamas are thirty women from Mayianat, a community conservancy near Dol Dol in Laikipia North, who have to time every trip to the river around the elephants. Their LAMP began in September.

Four participants, two Moran and two Elephant Mamas, spoke to the group while Guy was there. All four agreed to have their videos shared on our website.
