This week, the whole staff of The Pangolin Project, around thirty people, is in the second module of a LAMP, MSWC’s Leadership and Management Training Program. Module 2 began on Wednesday 7 October and runs to Friday, led by Heiz Wadegu and Lavias Lekuuk of Forward Consulting. The first module ran from 7 to 11 September, led by Allan Ward, who runs LAMP, with Heiz and Lavias, and the feedback from it, Allan reports, “has been excellent.”
The Pangolin Project is six years old. It works in Nyekweri Forest in Kenya, protecting the giant ground pangolin alongside the Maasai communities who live there. By its own count, 17,061 acres are now under active protection, across 212 agreements.
Its work is reaching new audiences. Pangolins feature in this quarter’s National Geographic, in an article on efforts to save them across Africa that includes The Pangolin Project’s work in Nyekweri, photographed by Will Burrard-Lucas. Mongabay has also reported on the problem of electric fences in the landscape and the Maasai communities working to protect Kenya’s last giant pangolins.

Lavias’s own story is featured in the LAMP film.
We will share more when the module finishes.
